01 Tiny Tigers · Ages 3–4

Their first mat, their first wins.

Three- and four-year-olds need to move, fall, climb, listen, and laugh — usually all in the same minute. Tiny Tigers turns that into a 45-minute class. It's playful, but it's not a play-date — they're already learning real BJJ shapes: how to fall safely, how to base out, how to grip a partner.

Tiny Tigers class — children ages 3 to 4
Ages 3–4

The program

Real Jiu-Jitsu — played at age 3.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for the youngest, taught through play and structured movement. We build the foundation — confidence, self-control, respect, listening — through real BJJ practice scaled to small bodies.

For parents
You can watch from the viewing area. Coaches give you an honest read after class — no spin, no upsell.

In every class

Five things, every time.

  • Movement & coordination warm-upAnimal walks, bear crawls, rolling drills — building the body awareness BJJ needs.
  • Safe falling & rollingThe most useful skill any 3-year-old can learn — on the mat and off it.
  • One real BJJ techniqueShrimping, bridging, gripping — broken into one or two kid-sized steps.
  • Listening & partner respectLining up, taking turns, bowing in. Structure does the work without nagging.
  • Confidence, names, high-fivesSame faces every week, same coach who knows their name. For shy kids, this is everything.

A typical week

Two short sessions is the right dose for a 3- or 4-year-old. Less is more at this age — better to leave wanting more than to burn out by month two.

02 Kids · Ages 4–6

Where it stops being a game and starts being a sport.

By 4 or 5, kids can hold a position, follow a two-step technique, and roll with a partner under control. The Kids Program leans into that. We still play games — but the gap between "drill" and "game" closes fast. They earn their first stripes here. They have their first real roll here.

Kids BJJ class — ages 4 to 6
Ages 4–6

The program

Where play becomes a sport.

By 4 or 5, kids can drill real techniques, partner up under supervision, and earn their first stripes. Same names, same details as the adult class — scaled to their bodies. We keep it fun, but the standards are real.

For parents
First competitions are optional. In-house tournaments and friendly meets with other Cyprus academies — only when your child is ready.

In every class

Five things, every time.

  • Structured warm-upShrimping, bridging, technical stand-ups — the building blocks of every roll.
  • Two-step technique blockArmbar from guard. Triangle setup. Hip escape. Drilled with a partner, in repetitions kids can count.
  • Controlled live rollingPosition-based sparring under coach supervision. Think under pressure, tap when caught, reset without ego.
  • Mat etiquette & belt systemLining up, bowing in, helping smaller partners. Stripes start to mean something here.
  • Self-defense fundamentalsHow to fall, create distance, and stay calm — without escalating anything.

A typical week

Two sessions are plenty. Three is great if your child is hooked. Saturday Open Mat is optional — a relaxed extra rep if they want more.

Juniors BJJ class — ages 7 to 9
Ages 7–9

The program

The full curriculum, kid-sized.

By 7, kids run a real BJJ class. Warm-up, drill, technique of the day, positional sparring, live rolling, debrief — the same shape as adult class, paced for a 9-year-old's attention span. Optional competition track for kids who want it.

Comp track
Extra drilling, mock matches, ride-shares to events. Always optional — many of our Juniors never compete and still reach blue belt.

In every class

Five things, every time.

  • Full BJJ warm-upMovement drills, technical stand-ups, partner-up exercises — same shape as adult class.
  • Position of the weekClosed guard, half guard, side control, mount, back. Submissions, escapes, transitions.
  • Drilling with intentProgressive resistance from partner. Coaches check understanding before moving on.
  • Live rolling under supervisionGetting tapped is data, not failure. Kids learn to fix problems instead of force positions.
  • Belt & stripe progressionWhite, grey, yellow, orange, green. Earned over time — not given. Kids live the system.

A typical week

Three weekday sessions plus optional Saturday Open Mat. Most Juniors hit two; the keen ones hit four. Both work.

04 Teens · Ages 10–14

An hour a day where they're not on a screen.

Ten to fourteen is the age where everything gets harder — school, friendships, body changes, attention. BJJ is one of the few places where none of that matters. You step on the mat, you train, and an hour later you walk off tired in a useful way. We've watched it work for hundreds of teenagers.

Teens BJJ class — ages 10 to 14
Ages 10–14

The program

An adult-style class, paced for growing bodies.

Teens train with intent. Beginners and experienced teens side by side — senior teens become coaching partners for the new ones and learn more by teaching than by drilling. Open Mat on Saturdays for free rolling and finding their own game.

The handover
At 15, teens cross to the adult program with a full curriculum, a belt rank, and the same coaching team. No restart, no reset.

In every class

Five things, every time.

  • Proper warm-upBJJ-specific, not generic cardio. Movement drills and technical stand-ups.
  • Technique blockOne position, two or three connected details. Drilled with progressive resistance.
  • Positional sparringStart from a position, work the problem. Where reading a partner gets built.
  • Free rollingCoach-supervised, partner-rotated by size and experience. Tap-and-reset culture.
  • Self-defense applicationsHow to manage range, end an exchange without escalation, walk away. We hope they never use it.

A typical week

Three weekday sessions plus Open Mat on Saturday. Most consistent teens train three times — that's the sweet spot for progress and recovery.

05 Adults · Ages 15+

From your first day to your sharpest roll.

Whether it's your first martial art or you arrived in Cyprus already wearing a coloured belt, the room is built for both. Black-belt coaches scale every drill to who's on the mat — patient with first-timers, demanding with experienced grapplers, and serious about the standard for everyone in between.

in the same class — because the program is run by black belts who design technique blocks that work for everyone in the room.

Adults BJJ class
Ages 15+

The program

Built for beginners. Sharp enough for competitors.

Most who walk in have never trained a martial art. A handful are blue or purple belts who moved to Cyprus and need a real room to roll in. Both groups are home in the same class — black-belt coaches scale every drill to whoever's in the room. Open Mat on Saturdays for free rolling.

12-week curriculum
A rotating curriculum through positions and concepts. You don't have to wonder what to work on — the room tells you.

In every class

Five things, every time.

  • Focused warm-upBJJ-specific. Movement drills, technical stand-ups, position-of-the-day prep.
  • Technique blockOne position, two or three connected details. Demoed by a black belt, drilled with a partner.
  • Drilling with resistanceProgressive: start cooperative, build to live. Coaches scale to your experience.
  • Positional & free rollingFrom the position, work the problem. Then 5×5-minute rolls with rotating partners.
  • Gi & No-Gi rotationsBoth formats in the weekly schedule. Competition prep available for those who want it.

Why it works

Results you can see.
Not promises.

Train consistently at IJS and these six things show up — at home, at school, on the mat. We've watched it happen for years. That's why we treat them as the standard, not the sales pitch.

01
Confidence they earn

Every stripe and every belt is earned on the mat — never handed over. That's confidence built on proof, and it follows them everywhere.

02
Real self-defence

How to fall safely, hold their ground, and stay calm under pressure. We hope they never need it. They'll always have it.

03
Calm under pressure

Live rolling trains fast, clear decisions when it counts — something no classroom drill can teach.

04
Discipline that sticks

Same coach, same structure, same standard, every week. Consistency does the work — no nagging required.

05
Social confidence

Partner drilling, names, high-fives, the same faces each week. For a shy kid, this changes everything.

06
Teamwork, not ego

Jiu-Jitsu is individual but never alone. You learn to make your partner better — not just to win.

First class is always free — come watch a session before you commit to anything.
